Pushing Limits

We all have our limits. Everything has limits. Limits are meant to me respected. They’re meant to be upheld. But, should they?

“This guy just reached my limit”

“I can’t do this anymore. It’s enough!”

We’ve all been in situations where our personal limit for what we thought we’re capable of has been reached. A point in your day job where you just can go further and do more than what’s been asked. Sometimes it’s difficult. Some choose to abide by their set limits, while others will choose to push through them. If we recognize why we’re trying to push ourselves and our work further than every before, if we see the positive and the benefit of that push - then yes, absolutely, the limits shouldn’t stop us from going further. When we push beyond our limits we learn. We learn where our limits truly lie. We learn new ways of coping with difficult situations, and better yet, we might learn new and better ways to do the work and get to a point where it doesn’t push our limits.

As with most things in life, perception is crucial. We may think the ask is beyond what’s doable - while others might be looking at the same task as completely easy. The question is whether or not you’re willing to rise to the occasion and learn something. The question is if you’re willing to push your own limits. More often than not, the answer should be yes.
